MOVIES & TV: Rotten Tomatoes versus Your Opinion. Part One.
From time-to-time movie reviews will be offered that might encourage you and your family to go to a theater or sit at home and stream, enjoying home-made popcorn. For peace of mind, getting away from work, and just the need for fresh entertainment perspective, over the last several years my wife and I have, on average, gone out to watch a movie about twice a month. More so, these days, we also pull up a movie at home to stream which we did not feel a night out to the movies was worth it, or we just missed is debut, more likely it went straight to cable. Technology-wise we no longer buy DVDs. The good ones will be on television somewhere, and several boxes of DVDs lay dusty.
A personal confession I must unload: I come from an era of black-and-white television where it was used as a hypnotic baby sitter and graduated to today’s special effects -green screen reality where all is conceivable and has been produced, filmed, or digitized. Simply, I am addicted to watching the creativity of others to the point of distraction to my own self who has their own creativity to unleash. I must prioritize my unstress time, avoid schlocky production values, accept intelligent plots yet also accept oblivion found in sci-fi kung fu or sappy rom-coms. To each his own…but you might listen to my few comments – of one who has seen too much—and considers himself a home-grown media critic who might save you time and money. Keep in mind my basic criteria is to be entertained, not to be openly lectured to, and feel good enough to convince you it is worth watching. Since we can’t see all movies we would welcome your own opinions. Email: info@questmystery.com
Comment: "Poor Things" (2023) starring Emma Stone -- Irreverent masterpiece, a mix of Frankenstein twist with Steampunk. Rated R but sexual scenes match the macabre coming-of-age story. Worth watching for open-minded artsy patrons.
